Mizoram Results 2018: MNF is single largest party, Cong reduced to 5 from 34 seats in 2013

MIZORAM ELECTION RESULTS 2018

As counting to the 2018 Assembly Elections comes to a close in Mizoram, the ruling Congress has been reduced to only 5 seats from 34 in 2013 while the Mizo National Front, which has been in the Opposition for 10 years, is now catapult to the seat of power, having emerged as the Single Largest Party in the state, winning 26 seat out of the total 40.

The Final Poll Results in Mizoram is : MNF-26, Congress-5, ZPM-8 and BJP-1.

1.30 pm: 

With only two seats remaining, the tally stands like this:

MNF – 25
ZPM – 8
INC – 4
BJP – 1

The tables have turned for the Congress. In 2013, the Congress had won in 34 seats, MNF in 5 and others in 1; this time around, the Congress is reduced to 4 seats with MNF taking the larger slice of 25 seats.

12.45 pm: 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has managed to open an account in Mizoram after registering its first win in Tuichawang constituency. Former Congress leader, BD Chakma, who joined the BJP just months before the elections, won the seat with a huge margin.

It may be mentioned that with this win, the BJP will likely play a major role in formation of the Government in this Christian-dominated northeastern state with the MNF (part of NEDA) emerging victorious in majority of the seats.

12.20 pm: 

While the official ECI declaration of results is yet to be announced, field reports stated that the MNF is reigning supreme in 21 seats. As issued by the Media, Publicity & IT, MNF General Hqrs, the regional party has already won in these seats below:

The 76 years old Chief Minister, Lal Thanhawla has lost both the seats he contested — Serchhip (Home turf) and Champhai South to Independent candidate, Lalduhoma and MNF's TJ Lalnuntluanga.

11.50 am: 

Former Home Minister of Mizoram R Lalzirliana bagged the Tawi constituency seat on MNF ticket. Lalzirliana has  left the Grand Old Party just months before the polls to joined the regional force. On the other hand, Former Assembly Speaker Lalchamliana of the MNF defeated Cooperation Minister and lone woman legislator Vanlalawmpuii Chawngte in Hrangturzo seat.

In a latest development, incumbent Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla lost the Champhai South constituency to MNF's TJ Lalnuntluanga.

In the latest updates, chief minister Lal Thanhawla is trailing in both the constituencies including his home turf Serchhip.

The opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) is leading in 19 constituencies followed by the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) in eight seats while the ruling Congress is leading in five seats in Mizoram, according to PTI quoting the state election department.
The BJP is leading in one seat in the state that has a 40-member assembly.

Incumbent chief minister, Lal Thanhawla of the Congress is trailing behind in Champhai South constituency at the end of the first round.

The latest reports show that MNF is still leading the race as it is leading in 18 seats with the Congress in 13 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP is also likely to open an account in this Christian-dominated state with it leading in 2 seats.
