The People's Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (Prism), on Thursday demanded chief minister Lal Thanhawla's resignation for allegedly abusing public office.
The party claims that the chief minister abused his power in public office by allowing his daughter-in-law to conduct "public interviews" on his behalf.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Prism president Vanlalruata said their activists investigated the matter following information and discovered that Rosie Chalrotluangi, Lal Thanhawla's daughter-in-law, conducted interviews on the Thanhawla's behalf at his office.
He called the action "illegal" considering the fact that Chalrotluangi is not a government servant or official and has no legal authority to conduct such interviews.
"A layman conducting a public interview at the chief minister's office (CMO) was an outright violation of law and it was an instance of defiling the honour of public office on the chief minister's part," Vanlalruata added.
Prism started functioning as an anti-corruption watch-dog since 2006 and was only recently made a political party.
