Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh: Home of the eastern hoolock gibbons

Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh, a state in Northeast India is the home of the Hoolock Gibbons, the only ape species found in the sub-continent.

The sanctuary was declared in 1980, and is home to many species of wild animals.The area of the sanctuary constitutes five rivers, Deopani, Ashupani Enjopani, Dipuh and Jowe; all of these are perennial and major tributaries to the Brahmaputra River.

The best time to visit Mehao would be during summer and winter, starting from November to May.
