SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma on Friday stated the State will pursue both the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) with the Centre.

“We respect the opinion of Governor Satya Pal Malik. His opinion is very important to all of us. The Government is pursuing both the MRSSA and ILP with the central government,” Sangma told reporters here today.

He further stated that the government will discuss further with the Government of India(GoI) on these two issues.

“Both these issues are very complicated and require the consent of the Central Government. The MRRSSA is a state law and there were some opinions which were sent to the Centre as well. Therefore, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is in the loop and so we need some kind of clearance from the Centre,” Sangma added.

He also stated the government is working very closely with the Governor concerning these two issues.

Earlier on Thursday, Meghalaya Governor had observed that the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) would have a negative impact on the State.
