Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, on Wednesday, informed that the Union Government had asked all the states to prepare the groundwork once the COVID-19 vaccine is available in the market.

“The meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi basically revolves around preparation for the process of vaccination as when the vaccine is ready in the market. Therefore, a discussion took place about the steps and procedures needed to be put in place by the states. The states would also require putting in place certain infrastructure. The fact is that we expect the exercise to be a huge one,” Sangma told reporters.

He further informed that all states would need to prepare themselves as and when the different agencies give the green light as soon as the manufacturing process is completed.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the chief ministers of all the states and Union Territories to review the COVID-19 situation.

During the meeting, Modi asked the chief ministers to begin working on cold storage facilities for the vaccine.

He also assured that the vaccine would be safe on all scientific standards.
