NEIGRIHMS director, Dr P Bhattacharya, has clarified that Tripura royal scion, Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman’s old picture was circulated in social media which led people to believe that he was not abiding to COVID-19 rules

SHILLONG:

NEIGRIHMS director, Dr P Bhattacharya, has clarified that Tripura royal scion, Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman’s old picture was circulated in social media which led people to believe that he was not abiding to COVID-19 rules.

According to him, someone must have shared his old picture to the media houses.

“Nobody stays there in that room since it is under repair. The Tripura royal scion was kept in the COVID-19 isolation area. The picture which was circulated to the media is an old picture which we had taken to inform the engineer that the room has to be prepared,” Dr Bhattacharya said.

He had mentioned that the family of the people who are in Shillong Hotel Majestic and Monsoon Hotel are kept in the isolation area, adding that they had also requested for a private ward.

“We do not have private wards ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 and had to stop the private ward since we have created the COVID-19 ward. We also have doctors and nurses who are staying in those rooms when they are on duty,” NEIGRIHMS director said.

Meanwhile, he said that he was never informed that the Tripura royal scion was shifted to Bethany Hospital.

Informing that they will find out who had leaked the photograph to the media, he said that it is really unfortunate that NEIGRIHMS is not growing since there are people who are playing their games to destroy the image of the institute.

When contacted, Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman, who was admitted at Bethany Hospital in Shillong after testing positive for COVID-19 recently, has been discharged from the hospital but has been advised to take internal medication for two-three days.

“I have got COVID pneumonia, and it has spread to my lungs. I have been advised to take internal medication and, if my condition doesn’t improve, I will go back to Bethany or maybe outside,” he said.

This is the 12th day since Manikya tested positive for coronavirus and his condition is complicated since he also has heart problems.

“I don’t know how I got infected,” the royal scion said while assuming that he might have contracted the disease in Shillong.
