TURA: East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, inaugurated a Training-cum-Orientation Program on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Williamnagar, on December 7.
The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) lamented that “Despite Meghalaya being the rainiest in the world, there is a scarcity of quality drinking water even in the rural areas.”
“With the launching of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the problems being faced by the rural households in terms of drinking water supply will be looked into and every household will be provided with functional household tap connection by 2023,” the DC informed.
Implementation Support Agency (ISA) coordinator, Amika K War, informed that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi launched the Jal Jeevan Mission, on the 73rd Independence Day of India with a holistic approach which focuses on safe drinking water supply service delivery of 55 litre per capita per day (LPCD) at household level throughout the year.
The function was attended by the Executive Engineer of PHE, Member Secretary of DWSM, Sujit P Marak among others.
