TURA:

Meghalaya BJP spokesperson Bernard Marak has assured to abolish the non-scheduled areas in Garo Hills, if the BJP is elected majority in the upcoming GHADC elections on April 9, 2021.

Marak on February 18 alleged that the Congress in the past turned parts of Garo Hills into non scheduled area.

“During the rule of the Congress, many scheduled areas were turned in non scheduled areas, violating the Sixth Schedule itself,” Marak said.

“Non-Hill mauzas were introduced to facilitate the general administration like the Municipality and open the reserved seats. We will abolish all Non Scheduled areas and non-Hill Mauzas which exist without a Mauzadar - Tura, Williamnagar, Resu, Baghmara, Tikrikilla, Rajabala, Mahendraganj, Dalu (as per RTI). These were hidden from the public.”

He further alleged that municipalities in Garo Hills were functioning without proper No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
