Meghalaya: Welfare policy sought for differently-abled persons in Nongpoh

The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has informed that the Central Government through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India that under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 has set up the National Schemes for Persons with Disabilities and Organisations working for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The primary aim of the scheme is to provide financial assistance for the empowerment of persons with disabilities which are not covered under the budgetary support programme of the government.

The activities for which schemes will be provided include financial assistance to any government organisation or registered organisation under Societies Act/Companies Act or Trust Act for not less than three years, for organising exhibition or workshops at the National/regional/ state level to showcase the products including paintings, handicrafts etc made by the PWDs.

It is also informed that financial assistance to support individual persons with benchmark disability who have won medals in sporting events or fine arts, music or dance at the state level and to further taking part at the national and international events.

The scheme also aimed to support certain exclusive needs of PWDs with high support needs as recommended by the State Assessment Boards.

Applications are invited from any eligible person with benchmark disability and organisations to submit their proposal for financial assistance under national schemes.
