 |

TURA:

Minister in charge of Water Resources B Nongsiej, on Friday, visited the erosion-prone areas of West Garo Hills (WGH) district and promised the residents that he would take up the matter with the Brahmaputra Board in Guwahati, Assam.

Local MLA Azad Zaman accompanied the minister along with the chief engineer, superintendent engineer and the executive engineer of the same department.

The visit comes in the wake of complaints and appeals by Zaman and residents of the areas who are seeking a solution to the erosion that has been threatening to wipe away most of the land along the Brahmaputra and its tributary, Jinjiram.

“We are happy that the minister has come to visit and assured to look into the matter. The situation is rather critical and requires immediate attention. Many have lost their land because of floods every year and will continue to do so if no action is taken,” Zaman said.

The minister also visited two other irrigation projects in Gomaijhora and Quijani under Rajabala constituency.
