Meghalaya: Village administration reports over non-functional school in West Khasi Hills

 |

NONGSTOIN:

The Village Dorbar of Umiong village, under West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, met the Sub-Divisional School Education officer, on Monday regarding a school that has been non-functional for almost six years.

Reportedly, the school belongs to the Umiong Church Of God Lower Primary school and was established in 1986.

They alleged that the school has received grant-in-aid from the Government including a building grant and deficit pay for two assistant teachers.

“The school has been non-functional from 2014 to 2015 till date,” Umiong village headman K. Sohshang said.

He also told that the school’s founder wanted to shift the set-up to another place at Nongkroh Rambrai village.

This has created an immense loss to the school going children and makes them drop out of school, he added.

He said that they have discussed the matter with the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) for the reopening of the school.
