Meghalaya: Tura water situation set to improve after load shedding cancellation

Localities of Tura will heave a collective sigh of relief after a spell of rain on March 10. Further, with the power situation in the state improving and load shedding being cancelled, the Public Health Engineering department is expected to be functioning normally.

Tura is currently in a drought like situation with most water sources that the town depends on is drying up.

Tura requires about 25 mld (million litres per day) of water supply and with the present dry season, all gravity sources phase I (Rongkhon), phase III (Didare) and augmented source (Ganolsa) are literally dry.

The entire water supply for Tura is currently being supplied through the pumping mode from Edenbari on the outskirts of the town.

According to the administration, with full power supply, the town was getting only 14.6mld.

However, with 6 hours of load shedding, there is a water deficit of nearly 2.5 mld due to which only one supply of water was being made a day.

“The situation is expected to improve with the electricity situation. We are keeping close vigil,” said Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Ram Singh.

Locals are fervently praying for the rain clouds to shower the town with more rain so that the water situation is taken care of.
