Meghalaya: Transport operators warned against overcharging fares

TURA:

Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills (WGH) district of Meghalaya, Ram Singh, on Tuesday has warned transport operators on overcharging travel fares in the guise of COVID guidelines.

“It had been brought to my notice of passengers, especially in the rural areas, being overcharged by public transport operators, in the guise of COVID protocols,” stated an order issued by the DC.

The Deputy Commissioner ordered that going forward, all transporters were to charge only the amount that has been notified by the transport office.

Singh also directed the District Transport Office (DTO) to ensure all private transporters charge as has been notified by the department.

Earlier, there had been complaints coming from various quarters over the fact that transporters were charging almost double the notified fare, although COVID protocols were hardly being followed while picking up passengers.
