SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, on Monday, travelled from Delhi to Umroi Airport in the first-ever direct flight between Delhi and Shillong.

The Meghalaya Government has partnered with Flybig to operate the direct flight between Delhi-Shillong and Shillong-Delhi.

“It is a historic day since the long aspirations of the people to have a direct flight connecting with the national capital,” Dhar said.

According to him, the direct flight to Delhi will be operational twice a week, adding that the flight service will again resume from January 4 next year.

He further expressed hope that Flybig would be operational daily once demand increases.

Dhar stated that the state government had floated the tender for the direct flight to Delhi earlier in February this year.

To commence operations immediately, Flybig Chief Executive Officer, Capt. Srinivas Rao informed that they made arrangements to operate a 75 seater Bombardier Q400 charter for the direct flight.
