Meghalaya SSA teachers threaten to boycott duties over pending dues

TURA:

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Tuesday, threatened to boycott work if the Meghalaya Government fails to release their pending salaries.

“We have continued to submit memorandums to the Chief Minister and the Education Minister, seeking the release of our pending arrears for 8 months, but nothing has been done. We are quite unhappy over the insensitivity of the government on the matter,” said AGHSSASTA secretary, Benabith Sangma.

The teachers stated that the government was only following the Right to Education (RTE) norms concerning various duties like taking regular classes and conducting exams, election duties, on-line and off-line training programs.

"However, when it came to norms that benefit teachers, the same goes for a toss," they said.

They also stated that the State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SEMAM), which was formed to look into this aspect of the Education Department, has "failed" in its duty.

AGHSSASTA has given the State Government until the end of the month to clear their pending dues.

“We will boycott our work from Mar 1 till our demands are met,” stated Labingstone Momin, the AGHSSASTA president.
