Meghalaya: Ri Bhoi transporters seek DC's intervention over fuel price hike

NONGPOH: The commercial vehicles from Ri Bhoi District on Friday, unanimously decided to prolong their protest if the demand is not meted by the state government to reduce the price of petrol and diesel.

The Joint Action Committee of All Ri Bhoi passenger vehicles held a public meeting at Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh which was followed by the rally from Pahamsyiem ground to the office of District Transport Officer, Ri Bhoi and later submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner seeking her immediate intervention to discuss the matter to the state government.

The public meeting which was held at Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem was attended by the leaders of All Meghalaya Commercial Vehicles Association which include President, Wandonbok Jyrwa, Marbud Dkhar among others.

During the meeting, Wandonbok Jyrwa said, “If the government does not pay heed to our demands, we are ready to intensify the protest and will not stop until and unless the demand for reducing the rate of both petrol and diesel is heard.”

He also said that in the time to come they will continue with a strong protest and if the government turns a deaf ear to their demand, they will not hesitate to take a future course of action for the betterment of all commercial vehicles and the public as well.
