Meghalaya: Ri Bhoi district organises Yoga Sessions & tree plantations

Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi district administration in collaboration with various departments conducted a Yoga Sessions at Govt. L.P School Umdihar and Medicinal Tree Plantations at the premises of Umdihar Anganwadi centre, on Sunday.

The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah and other district officials.

"The objectives of this programme is to educate people particularly, pregnant women, nursing mothers and children, on the importance of consuming nutritious food in their daily life," Kurbah said.

She also encouraged them to consume organic and seasonal, nutrition-rich fruits and vegetables to eradicate and prevent malnutrition.

The programme was conducted under the Poshan Pakhwada 2021 from March 16 to March 31, focusing on 'Nutritional Challenges' through food forestry and organising Poshan Panchayats.

Various events and activities were held, including distribution of more than two thousand saplings of nutrition-rich plants to 519 Anganwadi Centre in the district, generating awareness at village Panchayat level on malnutrition, and the use of AYUSH principles and practice for eradication of malnutrition and others.
