SHILLONG:

A day after a Rapido captain (bike taxi rider) was assaulted by unknown miscreants at Jaiaw area in Shillong, police informed that this was not a one-off case in the area.

Two more people who are associated with the delivery services -- Flipkart and Swiggy were also attacked by a few miscreants at Jaiaw in the past few days.

Confirming this, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP-City) Vivek Syiem said, it is true that there are two more similar incidents which had taken place in the area.

It may be mentioned that a Rapido captain Hiren Deka was attacked by a group of miscreants near Dr H. Gordon Robert Hospital in Jaiaw, Shillong on Thursday (October 15).

The miscreants forcefully snatched his bike and set it ablaze near Wahingdoh bridge.

Syiem said that the police did not receive any official complaints of the other two incidents.

When asked if the police have managed to zero-in on the people who were involved in the assault of the Rapido captain, the senior police officer said, so far, they have not been able to ascertain the identity of the people involved in the incident.

"It might take some time. But we are going to nab the culprits involved in this crime," Syiem said adding that they would not allow law and order to deteriorate at any cause.

When asked if the police suspect the involvement of an organised group in this assault case, he said that they cannot rule out anything at the moment.

"We will be able to come to a definite conclusion once we make the arrest," he said.

Replying to a question if the three incidents are connected, the SP (City) said that it is difficult to determine whether they are just stray incidents or there are any connection.
