Meghalaya police recover arms after the arrest of five kidnappers in WGH

After arresting a gang of kidnappers from Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills, police, after multiple rounds of interrogation, recovered two country-made rifles the gang members used in the recent kidnapping of a fish trader from Bogulurbhita village.

On December 6, a fish trader identified as Sayful Islam had gone to supply fish to a marriage party and was reportedly abducted by the same gang along with his motorcycle.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh to be paid within three days.

Timely intervention by the police narrowed down the suspects to a house in Bandagre village where. Upon seeing the police, the kidnappers fled, and police were able to rescue the victim.

Police, however, identified and arrested four of the gang members two days following the incident.

They made one more arrest on December 9.

The police search team was supervised by an Additional SP and led by the IC of Bogulurbhita.

“After their arrest and questioning, we conducted a second operation headed by the SDPO of Raksamgre and assisted by Tikrikilla Police. Illegal firearms used by the gang and incriminating evidence were recovered from the spot after observing all legal formalities,” said an official police report.
