Meghalaya: Nongstoin MLA pens letter to PWD on accident-prone highway

 |

NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin legislator Macmillan Byrsat, on Wednesday penned a letter to Meghalaya Chief Engineer PWD (National Highway) to change the alignment of the NH-44 E (Shillong-Nongstoin- Tura) road at Jaidohkroh near Nongspung village in West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.

Byrsat in a letter mentioned that there have been accidents taking place almost every week along the NH-44E/NH-106 of the Shillong- Nongstoin-Tura highway.

Mishaps mostly happened because of the blind and sudden curve at Jaidohkroh, he stated.

Therefore, he requested to explore options for changing the alignment of the road at NH44E/NH-106 to avoid further accidents and the loss of human lives.

Reportedly, Byrsat was informed that a local is willing to sell land next to the accident-prone area in case if the government seeks an alternative alignment.

Meanwhile, Byrsat has appealed to the PWD National Highway to construct multiple speed breakers before reaching the blind curve to avoid further accidents.

Byrsat also requested the Chief Engineer to inspect the spot at the earliest.
