Meghalaya: Night Curfew extended to January 19 in West Garo Hills

The state government has promulgated night curfew across West Garo Hills district under Section 144 CrPc from January 12 to 19, given the prevailing COVID-19 situation.

The curfew will be from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am.

According to the official government order, the curfew will not apply to essential services which include medical teams on duty, MeECL, public health engineering & public works department, police and armed forces, fire and emergency services, civil defence and home guard volunteers, food and civil supply department, PDS wholesaler/ dealers, FCI staff, Tura Municipal Board, telegraph communication & IT services, NIC, press, print and electronic media, wholesale and retail pharmacies, national highway and infrastructure development corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and Telecom Services.

The District Magistrate also advised citizens to wear masks and to follow all COVID-19 guidelines.

The order further stated that violators of the guidelines would be prosecuted under Section 2 of the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897.
