The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and the Federation of Achik Freedom (FAF) of the Chibinang regional units, on Monday, undertook repair work along the damaged sections of the Chibinang–Dadenggre road.
“We undertook the repairs by ourselves as we are the ones using the road, and it was a nightmare to use. Many parts are still untraversable because of the size of the potholes. The department in question and the contractor should look at this instead of us, but it seems they have forgotten their duties to the common man,” said Amit Marak, the GSU unit president.
The condition of the road has proven itself to be a primary hurdle for residents of the area and has over time, denied them a huge market for their horticultural products as the villages between Chibinang and Dadenggre are known for their pineapples, commercially farmed betel nuts and black pepper.
We may note that the people of the region have lamented over the condition of the road as many farmers had no other choice but to depend on the market in Chibinang.
