Meghalaya: NGO highlights deplorable condition of SGH school, seeks immediate repair

 |

TURA: The Garo Students Union (GSU), Siju Regional unit of South Garo Hills (SGH) has written to the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) highlighting the deplorable condition of the Siju Songgital School.

Ralseng Sangma, President of the unit, stated that the school building was without maintenance over decades, leading to poor quality of education of the children who attend the same.

As has been the case with other such structures, the school building has half a roof with the doors and windows destroyed.

“The school today still has a large enrollment, despite the terrible condition it is in. This has been an eyesore to the people and to us. It is not workable to take classes in such a structure and it is impossible to do so in any season – winter, summer or monsoon,” added Ralseng.

The NGO urged the SDSEO to take immediate cognisance of the situation and to immediately start repair work for the sake of those affected by the poor school condition.
