TURA:

The protesting employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), under the aegis of the Non-Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA), stated that they would go on an indefinite hunger strike if their demands are not met.

Reportedly, the NGEA-led employees have been demanding the release of their pending salaries since February 22.

In a meeting held on March 3, the protesting employees called for an indefinite hunger strike from March 10.

“As there has been no assurance given to us. We will go on an indefinite hunger strike if there is no written assurance by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to work on the salary issue,” said NGEA secretary Brithen Sangma.

Further, the NGEA said it would ensure eviction of all the former ruling MDCs who are yet to vacate their quarters from March 7.

“The properties within the MDC’s quarter belong to the Council and not to the MDCs. The Council has every right to keep it. We oppose such forceful loot of resources and will ensure things are kept within the quarters itself,” he added.
