The programme aims to create sustainable livelihood amongst members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and to identify suitable livelihood activities through a participatory approach based on local demand, availability of raw material, marketing facilities and skill up-gradation.

While addressing the gathering, Marbaniang lauded NABARD for sponsoring the project and thanked DAWN, the agency implementing the project, for selecting the village.

He assured that help would be provided by Mawthadraishan C&RD Block in implementing the project.

Meanwhile, the District Development Manager (DDM) of NABARD, Utpal Bezbaruah, said that the primary objectives under the project are to promote strawberry and mushroom cultivation on a larger scale.

The project will stress on availing the latest technology training along with high-quality planting materials for the cultivation of strawberries and mushrooms with the help of KVK and BRDC as a resource organisation.

The project comprises intensive training for SHG members, followed by refresher training and support to help them get started.

The beneficiaries of the project will comprise 150 older SHG members from the 16 SHGs in the two villages.
