Meghalaya: Longest timber bridge in West Garo Hills reopen

A timber bridge, which had been one of the primary connection between many villages of Dadenggre civil subdivision in West Garo Hills, was restored after it was washed away six months ago.

The bridge at Kalchengpara, one of the longest timber bridges in the region, was washed away in a flash flood early this year, leading to harassment of many locals who had to take a roundabout journey for official works, including trade and commerce.

The local MLA from Selsella and NPP’s Ferlin CA Sangma had posted about it on their social media page on November 29.

The reopening of the bridge had been done through a ceremony held on November 29 in the presence of the MLA.

Locals, however, expressed hope that the bridge would soon be converted into an RCC one so that the road connectivity will not hamper in the future.
