The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) central body has written to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi concerning key issues pertaining to the state.

In a press release, the KSU stated the issues highlighted in the letter are long pending, and discussions through dialogues and memorandums are ongoing between the different stakeholders and the Union government.

The key issues penned in the letter included the much-debated implementation of the Bengal, Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873 or the Inner-Line Permit (ILP), repealing of the Amendment to the Citizenship Act, 2019, exemption from the Indo-Nepal Friendship Treaty, 1950, the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute, the inclusion of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule, and the establishment of a permanent Central Agricultural University in Meghalaya.

“The prime issues concerning Meghalaya are the longing aspirations of the people which can be resolved for the overall welfare and benefit of the indigenous citizens of the state, and the country,” stated the press release.
