The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), West Khasi Hills District Unit (WKHD), along with Lyngngam Hynnengbrei Area Unit, met West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T. Lyngwa on Wednesday, to discuss the issue of Entry and Exit Points and the issue of illegal migrants.

A delegation of the KSU WKHD led by its president John Fisher Nongsiang demanded the Deputy Commissioner to set up an infiltration check gate at Nongshram village under West Khasi Hills District.

While talking to the media, President KSU WKH, Johnfisher Nongsiang said, "illegal immigrants in Shallang village keeps on increasing day by day and these immigrants enter the District via Nongshram village bordering East Garo Hills District."

He also said that as of now the District has only one infiltration check gate at Athiabari village bordering Assam, however outsiders can easily enter the District through Nongshram village.

Meanwhile Anslem Ryntong, President KSU Hynnengbrei Area Unit, said that most of the outsiders entering Shallang village have no proper documents nor a police verification and this can cause a great threat to the local people living in the area.

“We want the Deputy Commissioner to set up another infiltration check gate at Nongshram since we don’t want Shallang to become the next Ichamati,” he said.

The Union also urged the Deputy Commissioner to strengthen the existing infiltration check gate at Athiabari village to prevent the influx in the District.
