The new building, located at the centre of Lower Lachumiere, will also house a central government office – Passport Kendra office.

While pointing out that the DIPR, being the press and publicity wing of the government, has a crucial role to play, Sangma said this role is not restricted only to the day to day governance at various levels down to the grassroots but also in highlighting all the different schemes that are being initiated and implemented by the government.
Stressing on need to adapt to the new technological changes, he said the evolution of the new media - social media has brought about new challenges and opportunities. “I believe reforms are to effected in a phase manner in order to ensure sustainability in the long run,” he added.
Moving with the times and to supplement traditional forms of information dissemination, the department has ventured in the arena by posting important government information on its official Facebook page under DIPR Meghalaya, Sangma informed.
The inauguration programme was also attended by secretary incharge of IPR, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Director of DIPR, BS Sohliya, officers and staff of the department and editors, producers and journalists of various media houses in Meghalaya.
