TURA: District Council Affairs Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on December 10, said that the State Government is yet to discuss over the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.

“How can we discuss the elections when the Administrator Rule is still being invoked in the GHADC,” Rymbui stated.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma sought the intervention of Governor Satya Pal Malik to hold the GHADC elections, adding that there is no reason to delay the election process which was due in October this year.

The GHADC was placed under Administrative Rule from October 16 by Governor Satya Pal Malik, ending the confusion about the status of the current elected members whose tenure ends on October 18.

The five-year term of the current council came into being on October 18, 2015, and fresh polls were due to be over by December 18.

However, because of the pandemic situation in the country, elections could not be held.
