SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Government is planning to commission the entry and exit point at Umling in Ri-Bhoi district either on December 10 or 12.

This was revealed by the secretary of Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO), Roy Kupar Synrem after a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in Shillong on Thursday.

“As per the information shared by the Chief Minister, the entry and exit point will be commissioned next week,” Synrem told reporters.

It is a good thing that the Government has come up with the entry and exit point to monitor people who are entering and moving out of the State, he said.

CoMSO also suggested the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi to pressurise the Centre to immediately implement the inner-line permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, Synrem informed.

He said the situation also demands all the 60 legislators to ensure the resolution on ILP passed by the state Assembly last year is approved, to fulfil the long-pending aspiration of the people of the state.

When asked about the Meghalaya Residents' Safety and Security (MRSSA) Amendment Bill 2020, Synrem said the Governor is yet to return the bill.

“The Chief Minister has given a positive reply that the Governor will soon give his assent and the MRSSA (Amendment) Bill, 2020 will be implemented in the State,” he added.

He also informed that they are going ahead with the proposed sit-in-demonstration on Friday to impress on the demand to implement ILP in the State.
