Meghalaya govt targets to complete Shillong ropeway project in less than two years
SHILLONG | SEPT 08, 2020:
The Meghalaya government is contemplating to come up with a ropeway in Shillong city, the project which will likely see the light of the day in less than two years.
Informing this on Twitter, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, "We target to complete it within 18 months post the issue of work order."
Preliminary costing of the Shillong Ropeway is estimated at ₹84 Cr & we target to complete it within 18 months post the issue of work order. In a virtual meeting with officials on Monday, September 7, discussions on the progress and status of several projects in the state were taken up.
Sangma informed that the preliminary costing of the Shillong Ropeway is estimated at Rs 84 crore.

Sources informed that the Shillong Ropeway will connect Tripura castle area in Cleve Colony with Shillong peak in Laitkor.
The chief minister further informed that for the Umiam Ropeway, formalities with landowners will be closed by September 2020.

The decision to come up with the Umiam ropeway came up in August last year after the CM inspected Umiam Lake viewpoint.
