Meghalaya Govt mulls reopening places of worship if COVID situation improves

The State Government constituted a sub-committee of the Shillong All Faith Forum on Monday to submit recommendations on the reopening of all places of worship in the state.
Following a meeting with leaders and representatives of various faiths, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the Sub-Committee, headed by Chief Secretary M.S. Rao, will review the drafting of protocols and will submit its recommendations within the week.
Informing that SOPs concerning the reopening of places of worship were modified two months back, Tynsong said that Monday's meeting decided to review the previous notification issued by the Government of India adding that the meeting of the sub-committee will be held within the week.
While admitting that COVID-19 has spread to the community, Tynsong expressed hope that the situation will improve, thus allowing places of worship to reopen in the first week of October.
A clause in the guidelines of the MHA states that only 100 people are allowed at a time, he said.
Tynsong also said that social distancing can easily be maintained in most places of worship in the state.
"Allowing just 100 out of 1,000 worships is as equivalent as not having the place of worship open," he said.
