Meghalaya Govt monitoring team to keep a close watch on Dwarksuid bridge work

The Meghalaya Government is keeping a close watch on the construction work of the new temporary steel bridge, also known as Dwarksuid bridge along the Shillong Bypass in Ri Bhoi District.

The state government along with the district administration of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi had disallowed heavy carrier vehicles carrying over 20 tons to ply through the Shillong Bypass after they detected a crack on the Dwarksuid bridge.

On December 15, the Meghalaya State Transport Minister along with other officials of the Transport Department visited the site and handed over construction duty to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

During the inspection, the minister admitted that they would complete the temporary steel bridge by January 15, 2021.

Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that construction work on the steel bridge is going well and would be complete by January 15.

“Though there might be some issues relating to the construction of the bridge which may also defer the deadline of completion, the state government is keeping a close watch to speed up the construction work so that the new bridge can serve the people as the Shillong Bypass connects Meghalaya with many other states in the northeast,” Dhar added.
