Meghalaya govt issues advisories to tourists coming from the United Kingdom

SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya government on Wednesday issued a notification barring tourists coming from the United Kingdom to Meghalaya with immediate effect and until further orders.

The public notice was issued by the Political Department amidst the outbreak of the new mutant coronavirus strain in the United Kingdom, which experts believe has resulted in a sudden spike.

The Government has taken the step as a precautionary measure in the interest of the public and its citizens.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has also suspended all international flights to and from the UK because of the new strain that has plagued the European nation.

Earlier today, Niti Aayog member, DR VK Paul addressed the media and said, “There is no evidence of the new coronavirus strain in India, and all the UK returnees are being thoroughly tested and put in quarantine”.

As companies are working on the vaccine with possible deployment next year, there is a hope that the world-wide pandemic can be controlled and eradicated.

However, last week, a new SARS-CoV-2 variant was revealed and, it was suspected to be the reason behind the rapid surge in Covid-19 cases in England last month.

The new virus is being differently interpreted by many experts, and research is underway to check if new virus too, can be controlled by the vaccines under development.
