SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the construction of the sub-way steel bridge on the Shillong-Bypass at Dwar Ksuid, Ri-Bhoi, would be completed in 2021.

“The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is on the job, and they are working 24/7 to complete the sub-way steel bridge at the earliest. We hope they would complete the alternate bridge early next year,” Tynsong told reporters on Tuesday.

According to him, the steel bridge can support heavy vehicles ferrying goods up to 40 metric tonnes.

Earlier, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that repair work on the Dwar Ksuid bridge would be completed by January 15.

“The dismantling process is still going on reassembly work will take 20-25 days,” Dhar had stated after inspecting the bridge.

To a query, Dhar said the bridge has a capacity of 40 tonnes and a lifespan of 13-14 years or even more.

At present, all heavy vehicles are plying on the national highway via Shillong city, and the state government has directed all goods-laden trucks to carry below 20 metric tonnes while passing through Umïam Dam bridge.
