Meghalaya: DTO office in SGH come under standstill due to technology paralysis

 |

SHILLONG:

The office of the District Transport Office (DTO), South Garo Hills (SGH) in Baghmara has literally been paralysed after all the computers meant for the office broke down in phases and replacements were never made.

According to a source from the DTO office, the situation has been the same for the past 3 months despite repeated request.

The source also revealed that the main situation developed because of faulty lines and poor wiring condition which has led to many of the computers, which are extremely old, breaking down and office work being halted.

“The main issue has been the wiring of the building, which is faulty because of which there is a frequent breakdown of the computers. Unless given the go ahead we cannot even purchase new materials for the office, which is making things extremely difficult for us,” said an employee of the office on condition of anonymity.

Speaking on the issue, the Deputy Commissioner of SGH, Hubert Marak, said that the office of the DTO had been asked to ensure repairs to the CPU so that normal work at the office can resume.

Meanwhile, the situation has left many residents of the district fuming at what they called abject laziness by the authorities in getting the situation worked on so that pending files can be cleared on time.
