SHILLONG:

Forest department officials on Friday recovered a decomposed body while conducting fencing work at Sawmer, East Khasi Hills district, in Meghalaya.

According to sources, the forest department immediately informed the local authorities, who later informed the local headman on the incident.

Local headman Morris Shabong said that they did not know how it happened and when did the incident take place. The police at Jhalupara were informed, and the body was taken for post mortem.

“We could not identify the deceased because the body and clothes were in a shabby condition. A finger was also found near the Presbyterian Church, Sawmer,” said Shabong.

The headman also said that the unidentified body is suspected to be a male.
