The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), West Khasi Hills unit, on Friday, met the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Nongstoin, to discuss the deep curve along NH-44 E at Jaidohkroh in Ksehkohlong village.

HYC president Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh said that the council had urged the executive engineer to figure out a way to tackle the curve to avoid road accidents.

“Since 2016 till date, frequent accidents have taken place on the same spot, and the worst was in 2017 when 20 people were killed,” Kharsyiemlieh said.

“We cannot blame the drivers all the time, and the poor condition of the road needs to be looked into,” he said.

“This location should be called a Black Spot Area,” he added.

Meanwhile, Executive Engineer A.B Umdor assures the HYC that he would take up the matter and instructed the members of the council to meet with the National Highway authorities.
