Meghalaya: Couple charred to death in Mawlynrei house fire

SHILLONG:

A house fire in Mawlynrei Nonglum Rngi, Meghalaya, resulted in the deaths of a husband and wife on Wednesday morning.

Sources identified the deceased as Michael Marboh (40) and Belinda Kharumnuid (39).

The Rangbah Shnong (headman) of Mawlynrei village, O. Pyngrope, said the incident occurred around 2:00 am.

“The fire had spread at a rapid pace since it was a wooden house,” Pyngrope said.

Pyngrope said they could not inform the Fire and Emergency Services as the fire had completely gutted the house by the time they reached the spot.

He stated that the couple’s children were not in the house as they were staying with their grandmother.

Meanwhile, police sent the bodies to Shillong Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.
