SHILLONG:

While January 26 for most people would mean an outing or a picnic with family and friends, the makeSomeoneSMILE (mS2) team organised a cleaning drive to mark the occasion.

The team led by a group of like-minded individuals conducted the voluntary event as part of the idea enshrined in the team’s vision; to offer humanitarian service to the society.

The mS2 team conducted the cleaning drive at one of the most visited tourist spots in East Khasi Hills district; the Mawkdok viewpoint.

During the event, the team cleaned almost 60 per cent area of the entire viewpoint, collecting over 40 kgs of garbage, 10 kgs of plastic items, 20 kgs of glass bottles and 10 kgs of other biodegradable and non-biodegradable items.

The members of the team hailed the event as a successful initiative undertaken to showcase a sense of responsibility towards society and the environment.

Members of the group informed that a couple of tourists also joined the team in their endeavour, which was indeed a grand gesture on their part.
