Citizens of Meghalaya have recently filed several complaints concerning the problems encountered at toll plazas along the National Highway.
Commuters reported several hurdles, including traffic snarls after the Government of India through the Ministry of Road Transports and Highways made FASTag stickers mandatory for all vehicles.
According to reports, it enraged commuters that the toll staff were levying fines to all those who did not paste the FASTag stickers at toll plazas in Diengpasoh, East Khasi Hills, and other areas.
While speaking to reporters on the issue, Karge Kamki, the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shillong, said that problems cropped up because the people are unaccustomed to the FASTag sticker system of paying fees at the toll gates.
“The Government of India, through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway had instructed (us) to introduce and make FASTag stickers mandatory to promote fee payments through digital mode, reduce time wastage and fuel consumption and to provide a seamless passage through the fee plazas. It is also decided to make all lanes in fees plazas on the National Highway as FASTag lane from February 15, 2021 midnight,” Kamki said.
The Project Director also urged citizens to get their vehicles registered with FASTag stickers and adhere to the orders.
“The toll fees differ according to the vehicle,” he added.
