SHILLONG:

The Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) MLA and Cabinet Minister, Renikton L. Tongkhar said that the Centre should make its stand clear on whether the Inner Line Permit (ILP) would be implemented in Meghalaya.

“I strongly feel that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should make his stand very clear if he is in favour or against implementing ILP in the State. It is not right to continue to linger with this issue for too long,” Tongkhar told reporters on Friday.

He said that if the Centre is against the idea, then it should clearly specify on the reasons for not approving the implementation of ILP in the State.

“The people and the NGOs are losing their patience in view of the attitude of the Centre over the ILP,” the HSPDP MLA said.

Tongkhar said that he is also concerned about the attitude of the Centre vis-a-vis the resolution passed by the State Assembly on ILP in December 2019.

When asked about the view of the Governor, Satya Pal Malik that the implementation of ILP would have a negative impact in the State, the Minister said he respects the views of the Governor.
