Meghalaya Cabinet approves revised estimate of Ganol Hydel Project

The Cabinet on Monday approved the revised estimate of the Ganol Hydro Electricity Project in Garo Hills region.

"We have approved a revised estimate of Rs 507.71 crore for the completion of the 22.5 MW hydro project. The administrative approval of the project was accorded in 2008. The project estimated was revised to Rs 32.68 crore due to various factors," Meghalaya Power Minister James Sangma said.

This is the third time that the state government has revised the project estimate of the much-delayed power project in Garo Hills.

The state government had earlier revised the estimates to Rs 356. 43 crore due to the increase of land according to the new Land Acquisition Act.

"The latest revision of the project was revised to Rs 507.71 crores based on the 2019 price level," Sangma said.

The Planning Department also observed that the High Powered Committee, under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, will monitor the performance of the MePGCL concerning the Ganol Project which has been scheduled for completion by September 2022.
