Meghalaya: Booth Level Officers felicitated in Tura

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) Ram Singh felicitated two Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and distributed EPIC cards to newly registered voters as part of the 11th National Voters’ Day celebrations at the District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) Hall in Tura on Monday.

Trenish T Sangma, Headmistress of Asinagre UP School, and Clever M Sangma, Headmaster of Chasingre LP School, were both appointed BLOs and were felicitated for their dedication and sincerity.

They also held a cycle rally in the morning to kick off the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Singh stated that the electoral process strived to be inclusive in all aspects and that this year’s focus was on empowerment, vigilance, safety and information.

Stressing on difficulties faced by persons with disabilities (PWDs) during elections, the DC took cognisance of the issues and promised to rectify them at the earliest.

He also urged the youth not to fall prey to unethical voting by accepting inducements.

“The youth should abide by the voter’s pledge and encourage each other to choose their leader consciously and not be influenced by inducements,” Singh said.

Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Icon and PWD Darlingtom Marak also addressed the gathering on various difficulties faced by the differently-abled during elections and urged the administration to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, Assistant Systems Engineer, S Banai, gave a brief presentation on e-EPIC.
