Meghalaya: BJP challenges NPP over alleged GHADC corruption issue

TURA | SEPTEMBER 13, 2020:

The state BJP has questioned NPP state president and current MP, Dr W.R Kharlukhi's refusal to provide answers over a debate on the need for a CBI inquiry into the alleged corruption in the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of Meghalaya.

"If he thinks there's no corruption in ADCs, then I would suggest him to get ready for an open debate. BJP is against corruption and we will prove him wrong. GHADC has violated NITI Aayog guidelines by issuing two work orders for the same building in the same year in the name of Eisenhawar Sangma 4,18,39,900 and Kubon Sangma Rs 62,60,000," BJP state vice president and spokesperson Bernard Marak said.

Concerning the same project, Marak added that the work order was to be completed within two years.

"Ground floor was given to Kubon Sangma and the rest to Eisenhawar Sangma. Kubon's work was shown as completed, while Eisenhawar's work is 50 percent completed. How did GHADC think it can complete two projects in two years? This is just the tip of an iceberg of various scams in the GHADC," he said.

Marak said that the situation is worse now than it had ever been in the state under the current regime.

"We have a deep responsibility to act as guardian of the rights of the people. We apprised them of issues within ADCs. The party must see that corruption is rooted out and the NPP oligarchy looting the state with its levy of business commissions and allotting lucrative works and political appointments to family, friends and sycophants which have to stop. During this pandemic the welfare and interest of the people of Meghalaya is the priority," he added.
