Load shedding in Meghalaya to be discontinued in next 48 hrs

Meghalaya Power Minister James PK Sangma, on Friday, informed that load shedding in Meghalaya will be discontinued in the next 48 hours, as the state has cleared the pending dues of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).

NEEPCO had earlier (on March 16) issued a notice for the regulation of power supply to Meghalaya Power Distribution Ltd (MEPDCL) with effect from midnight of March 20.

Sangma said that the government had been working hard to resolve the issue and clear the payment at the earliest after NEEPCO had notified about power regulations to MEPDCL.

"Payment has been credited to NEEPCO, however, due to procedural issues, NEEPCO is unable to cancel the regulation notice immediately," the Power Minister stated.

"We understand and empathise with the students who are preparing for their examinations and we regret the inconvenience caused to the public in general. We assure the public and consumers that load shedding will be discontinued in the next 48 hours." Sangma added.
