KSU reiterates opposition to railway connectivity in Meghalaya

Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills District, have once again reiterated that they would stand firm to oppose railway line connectivity in Meghalaya.

The proposed railway line was meant to connect BG Railways from Tetalia (Assam) connecting Byrnihat in Meghalaya.

The union made the decision after the state government announced that it would resume the connectivity work of the railway line in the state which will connect Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district.

The KSU delegation led by president Ferdynald K Kharkamni met the Deputy Commissioner of the district on Wednesday to oppose the railway line connectivity until their long-pending demand of implementing the Inner-Line Permit (ILP) in the state is approved by the Union government.

“A strong mechanism to safeguard the indigenous people of the state is a must especially to combat illegal migration into the state,” Kharkamni said.

During the meeting with Ri Bhoi DC R.M Kurbah, the delegation stressed on properly implementing the Meghalaya Residents’ Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) in letter and spirit at the Entry Check Point in Umling.
