Jeweller Sengmitchi Marak from Meghalaya talks about the perfect fashion accessories

Jeweller Sengmitchi C. Marak from Dobasipara in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills added a new twist to the trend by giving a traditional touch to every earpiece.

Marak, who was awarded the Chief Minister’s E-champion challenge 2019, started designing jewellery when she enrolled in a basic course in Fashion Designing and Technology at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in 2018-2019.

“I have always loved to watch handcrafted things since childhood. The beautiful works of artisans always motivate me, and lately, I was inspired and motivated by a new little thing called Pinterest,” Marak said.

Traditional yet modern, she designs jewellery with a traditional wrap-around fabric called “Dakmanda” which makes her work stand out.

Apart from that, Marak also designs necklaces, hairbands and other accessories made of crystal beads and semi-precious stones.

Turning to Marak for tips, she said matching earrings with the outfit is important as it not only gives a good look but adds a tint of elegance.

“When in college, wear lighter earrings, while going to the office wear earrings which have a formal touch and when in parties wear fancy earrings matching it with what you wear to steal the spotlight,” Marak said.

“Whether it is a red carpet look or just a casual outdoor look, every girl should own three types of earrings which are simple, fancy and traditional that are comfortable to wear and easy to match with,” Marak added.

Earrings enhance and transform your look, so always complete the attire with a pair of earrings to add that perfect bling.

Fashion accessories include belts, bags, shoes, hats, sunglasses, watches, headbands, hair clips and jewellery like earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets and others.
