Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure tap water for every rural household in Meghalaya

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Thursday, announced the approval of Rs. 43,73.04 lakh to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state.

The mission aims to ensure access to safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural Meghalaya which would benefit residents of rural areas with no access to tap water.

Taking to his official Facebook Handle, Sangma posted the following, "A Grant-in-aid of ₹43,73.04 Lakh has been released for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Meghalaya as one of the instalments for 2020-21 by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR."

Conrad also took to Twitter earlier mentioning that "Meghalaya Govt has been tirelessly working to fructify the #JalJeevanMission. With the collective effort of all stakeholders, we are pursuing our ambition to ensure tap water for every household in rural.”

The state government, along with various stakeholders such as the local village community, the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), Sustainable water management (SWM), Total Water Storage Change (TWSC) and the individuals of the state, have worked tirelessly towards achieving 100 per cent Functional House Tap Connections (FHTC) across every rural household in Meghalaya.
